I think people get in that mindset of, “But EVERYONE does that, you have to, too!” when it comes to weddings. But, it’s your wedding–don’t listen to other people (except for your bridesmaides and moh *ahem*, oh, and the groom) do what you think is right. I’ll be right behind you, kicking ass.

I think you’re the perfect candidate for STD cards. It’s the kind of situation where you need more advanced notice. I knew someone who’s fiance’s family was mostly from Egypt, so they were another really good case for it.

I really want them too, but I think my practical side is going to win out this time.

I agree, we’re doing STD cards but we have an interesting situation. Our wedding is hours away from ALL our guests and in prime just-out-of-school time, and a lot of our guests have kids and will need some notice to make the arrangements.

Plus I really wanted STDs!

Though, in hindsight, i would have just done an e-card and saved the money.

If most of the people you want to invite live locally, you may not need the Save the Date cards. If you’re trying to adjust your budget to accommodate more people, it sounds like you haven’t totally made up your mind as to how many people you want to invite. So, save the money and don’t send out the Save the Dates. Why stress yourself out over something that isn’t totally necessary?
