This isn’t your typical fare for us, but I think it’s a pretty awesome party song, and a good upbeat song for a wedding. I want to try and expand our tastes, and I also want to highlight songs that might fit other NEPA weddings.
Whatcha think?
This song almost seems ‘too’ popular right now. It’s on all of the wedding websites and everyone’s talking about using it as a first dance song. Aaaaand I think there’s a good reason. This live version is a little less polished than the studio version, but it captures the sweetness that’s making this song such a popular choice.
We were at Groomsman M’s house tonight playing Rock Band 2 when this song reminded me I needed to blog today.
I have this (possibly unrealistic) vision of when this song should be played at the reception. It’s later in the evening, maybe at the start of the last hour of music. Everyone’s got some liquid courage in them and when this song starts, it pulls everyone back on to the dance floor (try and tell me it hasn’t at all the other NEPA weddings you’ve been to!). We all dance and sing along with Bon Jovi…. cause if I’m out there singing and tipsy by myself, it’s going to be a sad, sad sight my friends.
Ok, this isn’t the most romantic song by any stretch of the imagination. But it’s sweet sounding, and it’s fun, and it’s Steve Miller Band.
This could be a nice introduction song, or even a cake cutting song perhaps? The perfect number for a rock & roll wedding, or anyone who’s looking for some family friendly upbeat songs.
I downloaded this song on a whim this week – I was looking at smoove mid 90′s R&B ballads (yes, think Boyz II Men) in an attempt to relive my middle school days. Itunes suggest this song and I remember liking it back in the day.
It’s a bit funky and fun, but traditional enough that it’s not going to throw anyone off kilter (like playing I’M ON A BOAT might, hehe).
I’m usually the type of person who enjoys the original version of a song more than covers, but I’m willing to make an exception in this case. Electric Light Orchestra recorded the original version of Strange Magic, but I’m super partial to a version Darren Hayes recorded a couple of years ago for the Ella Enchanted soundtrack.
If you’re into the whole fairytale princess wedding theme, this might be a great first dance song. Since that’s not so much my thing, I’m thinking it will fit in nicely during dinner or cocktail hour.
The only version I could find on Youtube has been layered over pictures of lips. It’s really creepy and I’m sorry. Press play and turn your monitor off and just listen. Trust me, it’s way better that way.
In late May, NEPA Groom and I went to Hershey to see Coldplay in concert. When we got there, only half of the stadium had been sold, which worked out amazingly well for us. We moved up from row 99 (I’m dead serious) of the last section to the very middle of the first set of side grandstands. WOO!
Then the skies decided to open up and it poured. Like, it rained sideways. Everyone had to take shelter under the grand stands and about an hour later we went back out. It ended up being a perfectly cool and damp evening, and Coldplay went on to play an amazing set. When they started playing “Fix You” I surprised myself with the emotional reaction I had. Maybe it had something to do with us only having been engaged for 2 weeks at that point. I don’t know. But I love this song, and it’s a perfect sappy wedding song.
